Tottenham handed boost as Harry Kane trains with teammates - but won't be risked against Bayer Leverkusen

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost, with star striker Harry Kane training with his Tottenham teammates on Tuesday.

However the England striker will NOT appear in the Champions League, Mauricio Pochettino has stated.

Spurs have a crunch European clash against Bayer Leverkusen at Wembley on Wednesday, however the Argentine will not risk Kane.

Kane, 23, has stepped up his rehab in the last week, having been out of first-team contention since damaging ankle ligaments against Sunderland on September 18.

Spurs boss Pochettino was previously non-committal over the striker's chances of featuring against the German side over the weekend, offering it as a "50 per cent" chance, even though the striker had yet to take part in a full session.

But as Kane returned to exercises with his teammates on Tuesday, Pochettino said he will wait until Sunday's north London derby, where Kane is likely to be a substitute.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Pochettino revealed: "He won't be ready for tomorrow night. Sunday maybe. We need to assess [his fitness].

"Harry and Toby had a special session today. We hope Harry will be back in full training on Thursday."

Kane had scored in his last two matches before injury and the return of last season's 28-goal top scorer is unquestionably a boost to a Spurs side who remain unbeaten in the Premier League this term.

In his absence £16million striker Vincent Janssen has failed to impress, with the Dutchman yet to score from open player since arriving in the summer from AZ Alkmaar.

Janssen is likely to get another opportunity against Bayer, who won 2-1 at Wolfsburg on Saturday but currently sit 10th in the Bundesliga table.

Toby Alderweireld is also absent through injury.

The Belgian international trained away from his teammates at the club's Enfield training base, as he looks to make a return in Sunday's North London derby, having missed four games with a knee problem.

However, Pochettino is believed to be unwilling to risk his centre-half against the Gunners, unless he is at 100 per cent.
