Conte praises ‘great football enthusiast’ Abramovich

Antonio Conte has described Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich as “very demanding” and “a great football enthusiast”.

The Italian head coach was named as Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor in April and took up his role in July on a three-year contract.

Conte last month laughed off suggestions his position was precarious and has since seen his team win three straight Premier League games – against champions Leicester, Mourinho’s Manchester United and Southampton.

The Blues are one point behind Manchester City, who lead Arsenal and Liverpool on goal difference, __with seven wins and two losses from 10 games this season.

Abramovich celebrated his 50th birthday the day after the 4-0 defeat of United and takes an interest in the day to day goings on at Chelsea’s Surrey training base, Conte says.

Conte told Sky Italia: “He’s a very demanding employer but a great football enthusiast.

“Mr Abramovich is an employer and owner who has great passion. He wants to know and understand your ideas.

“He went to Austria to follow our training sessions. He comes to Cobham to spend time __with us and watch the videos I show to my players, because he really wants to understand. I think that this is wonderful.”

Chelsea next play Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.
