Arsene Wenger says that he will not help decide the identity of his replacement as Arsenal manager, but has not discussed __with the club extending his stay.
Wenger’s deal runs out at the end of the season, __with Eddie Howe one name mentioned more than most regarding taking over from Wenger.
Yet Wenger says it will be up to the club to appoint the new manager, not him. That flies against what Manchester United did with Alex Ferguson and David Moyes.
“I think it’s very important in a club that everybody does what they are paid for,” Wenger told beIN Sports.
“My job is to be the manager of the club and I’m responsible for the style of play and the technical policy of the club.
“The board’s responsibility will be to choose the next manager. That’s not my job. If they ask my opinion I will give it in an honest way. But it will not be me who chooses the next manager.
“I’m not in their position, I’m in my position. The love story I have with the club is linked with the fact the board has always shown faith in me.
“I’m very grateful for that, no matter what happens I will have to make my decision and the board will make theirs. I will respect the board’s decision.
“Even if I wish to stay on I respect always the decision of the board. They have the responsibility to do that.”
“We have not spoken about that,” Wenger said when asked if he had discussed extending his contract beyond this season.
