Ozil waits as Arsenal offer Wenger new deal – reports

Wenger Ozil Arsenal

Arsenal have reportedly prepared a new two-year contract for Arsene Wenger, which could help convince Mesut Ozil to commit his own future to the north Londoners.

Wenger’s current contract expires at the end of the season and neither the Frenchman nor the club have been willing yet to commit beyond that point.

But The Times reports that Arsenal, buoyed by their recent fine form which has seen them move level on points __with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League,  have drawn up a two-year extension and the paperwork is waiting for Wenger’s signature.

The 66-year-old has been linked __with the England job since Sam Allardyce was axed, and the Frenchman has been coy over his desire for the role, despite saying that it is preferable that an Englishman take up the position.

Should Wenger commit to Arsenal, then it should also make it easier for the club to convince Ozil to extend his contract.

Goal claims Ozil is waiting on the manager before committing his long-term future to the north London club.

Ozil’s current deal runs out in 2018 but the Gunners are willing to make the German their highest-paid player.
