Wayne Rooney’s biggest fan Paul Scholes is “certain” that the Manchester United captain will return for key clashes __with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.
Rooney was dropped for Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Leicester and was named on the bench for Thursday night’s game __with FC Zorya in the Europa League.
“He’s not in the greatest form at the minute and the timing’s right for him not to be in the team.
“He’s a fighter Wayne, he won’t just sit back and let this happen, he’ll be fighting to get back in this team,” Scholes told BT Sport.
“They’ve got an easy game tonight, could be an easy game on Sunday [against Stoke]. I think when them big games could round – Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City – I think we’ll see Wayne back to his best.”
When asked whether he thought Rooney would return for those games, Scholes said: “I’m certain he will, yeah.”
