Watford manager Walter Mazzarri has become the latest individual to praise Liverpool after losing to them.
Liverpool thrashed the Hornets 6-1 to rise to the top of the Premier League on Sunday, __with Jurgen Klopp’s side tipped by many to win their first top-flight title since 1990.
“In my opinion you can lose against a team like Liverpool at their home but I’m not happy to lose in this way,” Mazzarri said after the game.
“We have to work tactically and psychologically to play against a team like this again. We had too many players not on form but also congratulations to Liverpool.
“From the teams we’ve played there’s no doubt they are the team I’m most impressed with. If they continue like this they are number one in my list for winning the Premier League from the teams we’ve played against.”
The Italian is not the first to describe Liverpool as their toughest opponent so far this season, however.
West Brom manager Tony Pulis said that the Reds had a “free run” at the title after seeing his side lose 2-1 at Anfield in October.
“Liverpool are as good as anything we have played against,” the Welshman said after that game. “They are probably the most difficult test we have had so far.
“They are a very good side and they have got a chance this year.”
Alan Pardew joined the chorus of praise later that month, having seen his Crystal Palace side beaten 4-1.
“It’s very difficult to play against them. The speed, the runners, they’re coming from every angle.
“They are as good as anyone we’ve played this year.”
Palace midfielder James McArthur, who scored twice that day, added: “I’d say that’s the best side we’ve played this year as a team performance.
“The front six, the way they press the ball and rotate, they are a really strong contender this year in my opinion.”
