Arsene Wenger has dismissed claims that Arsenal want to sign striker Andrea Belotti this January as “fake news”.
It has been claimed in recent months that the Gunners hold a keen interest in Torino forward Belotti, who has scored 15 goals in 20 games in Italy this season.
Serie A club Torino claim that Arsenal have already bid £56million for the forward, while reports are circulating that any deal could cost upwards of £80m.
When asked about the rumours surrounding the 23-year-old on Friday, Wenger offered a pithy response.
“That’s what today you call fake news,” he said.
The manager was then asked about whether the club maintained an interest in Alvaro Morata, a previous long-term target who has been linked once more.
“We have a high number of strikers,” Wenger said on the Real Madrid star.
“We have Welbeck coming back, Perez is doing well and Sanogo too.”
